BLOGS & PODCASTS

As the world of endodontics changes and progresses, here are some links to information that might be useful to growing your practice or simply keeping up with the latest in our industry. I have also written blogs that might be useful to you.

A PLACE TO SHARE MY THOUGHTS

HOW TO TURN REGRETS INTO OPPORTUNITIES

Daniel H. Pink has spent years researching human regret and decided to compile data on it in a qualitative way. He surveyed regret all over the world, asking anyone to write in with their regrets, ultimately receiving tens of thousands of stories and missives with which he could compile, classify, analyze and recognize patterns.

IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY, WOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR LIFE MUCH?

A friend posed this question to me and I responded that I might buy a boat, although not sure I would want the hassle, or buy a new house that had a yard for my dogs but, no, I wouldn’t change much.  Money is just not what motivates me most or drives my choices.

Micromanaging your staff – Why it’s destructive and how to stop

Theodore Roosevelt once said, “The best executive is one who has sense enough to pick good men (or women) to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” Employees who feel that they are being micromanaged perform at a much lower level Not only have I

EMPLOYEES NOT MEETING THE MARK? Start with a productive conversation.

Just recently, a client told me he was very unhappy with a staff member but felt he didn’t have the time or patience to address it, let alone let her go.  Unfortunately, not addressing these concerns, is like not addressing a diseased tooth. It won’t get better with time unless something is done. So,

Worried about taking time off from your practice? Think the world will fall apart without you?

Many of my Endo2Endo clients have told me they get a feeling of dread at the thought of leaving the office for a week or even a day.  They have a hard time enjoying time off because they feel they have so much to lose (income, productive staff time, referrals etc.). I have seen people

GRATITUDE

WANT TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN THE BEST EMPLOYEES? GRATITUDE CREATES LOYALTY   Social media does more than attract patients to your practice.  It also has the power to tell potential employees what you are like to work for.  GlassDoor.com, for instance could discourage your ideal dental assistant from scheduling an interview.  That site posts

Have You And Your Practice Become Complacent?

6 Ways To Tell If You And Your Practice Have Become Complacent. We’re all guilty of it to one degree or another.  We get in a groove and become an unwitting actor in the movie, Groundhog’s Day, one day feeling exactly like the last.  We keep things the same, shun change, shut our minds

Life is not a game of Scrabble and other musings.

If you’ve been reading my monthly blogs, you may have noticed a thread running through them.  I am fascinated with thoughts and lessons about reducing self-imposed stress, both in my endodontic practice and the rest of my life.  In fact, reduced stress is a core component of my Endo2Endo coaching program. As human beings,

A BOWLFUL OF FROGS

A shift in thinking for the New Year          I read an article that inspired some thinking about and discussing the futility of trying to control the universe – a lonely and futile pursuit. The article uses “a bowlful of frogs” as a metaphor. Writer Seth Godin says, “To move forward is to give up on

One of the biggest wastes of time in an endodontist’s office

Gather information and answer questions BEFORE a patient arrives We’ve all seen it.  A patient arrives, doesn’t know what his or her procedure costs, hasn’t provided insurance information, wasn’t sure if they should have taken their daily medication before their appointment, doesn’t know how long the procedure will take. It’s easy to waste 15-30 minutes

HIRE SLOW. FIRE FAST

I don’t need to tell you that one of the most crucial yet difficult responsibilities we have as endodontists is to hire the right employees - those that are team players; bring tremendous and differing skills to the table; and help make the office as efficient (and pleasant) as possible. My experience is that, like

The Power of Delegating

In order to turn over control to others, you have to believe they will handle things much as you would.  If you have a “It doesn’t get done right unless I do it” mentality, I encourage you to reconsider.  Paying the bills, reviewing reports, handling the myriad of responsibilities that come with any practice –

What’s the difference between a general dentist and an endodontist?

General dentists are essential practitioners who keep teeth healthy by performing a wide variety of treatments from fillings to crowns to extractions, bridges, cleanings and much more. In the field of dentistry, there are several specialists including cosmetic dentistry, orthodontic services, periodontics, teeth restoration, oral-maxillofacial surgery and much more.

ENDODONTISTS ARE SPECIALISTS IN SAVING TEETH.

Just like a specialized doctor in any other field (heart specialists, oncologists, pediatricians, etc.), endodontists are specialists at diagnosing tooth pain and root canal treatment and other procedures relating to the interior of the tooth. In many cases, a diseased tooth can be saved with endodontic treatment.

ENDODONTISTS MUST COMPLETE MORE TRAINING. Along with two to three years of advanced training beyond dental school, endodontists must have incredible precision and hand-eye coordination, making them highly skilled at performing complex treatments.

ENDODONTISTS DO AN AVERAGE OF 25 ROOT CANAL TREATMENTS A WEEK, WHILE GENERAL DENTISTS TYPICALLY DO 2. Endodontists are skilled specialists in finding the cause of oral and facial pain that has been difficult to diagnosis.

ENDODONTISTS ARE EXPERTS IN PAIN MANAGEMENT AND TREATMENTS THAT ARE LESS INVASIVE. They use specialized techniques to ensure comfort during their treatments AND they are adept at minimizing tooth pain after their root canal procedure when the pulp infection or inflammation heals.

ENDODONTISTS USE CUTTING-EDGE SPECIALTY TECHNOLOGIES. Endodontists use the most advanced materials and equipment designed specifically to treat tooth pain, perform root canal treatment and make the experience more comfortable and successful. Some examples of technology: Digital radiographs and 3-D imaging allow endodontists to take detailed pictures of tiny tooth anatomy to better see the root canals and any related infections. Endodontists use dental operating microscopes to better see inside the root canals to thoroughly treat them.
